As you may be aware, Congress has been working feverishly to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the health care program put in place during the Obama Administration. The new Congress has been working towards the passage of the American Health Care Act (H.R. 1628), referred to as the AHCA, which will ultimately be the health care and insurance law to override the ACA. This bill passed the House, despite it's very limited review and not having a Congressional Budget Office cost score - a standard practice for better understanding the cost implications of legislation. The implications of the AHCA are far reaching...and often not beneficial for low-income or older Americans. To learn more about what's in the act, you can view a summary here.
Now, it the Senate is taking on health care reform. Currently, some staff members of a few Senate offices are working on legislation, but no one has any information about what is being included -- except the few working on the legislation.
This practice is not a best practice -- as Americans, we have a right to know and be given the opportunity to understand the laws that are being enacted upon us.
Let them know you...
DO NOT SUPPORT a law that does not meet your needs.
DO NOT SUPPORT a law that does not cover preexisting conditions.
DO NOT SUPPORT a repeal of the ACA without a reasonable substitute.
We need you to contact your Senators! Let them know that, as Americans, we have a right to express our support or opposition to legislation, but we must know what it says!
If you care about having access to health services and health insurance, please call your Senators. The current bill has not been released to the public (which is highly unusual). But, it is reported to not cover pre-existing conditions and to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without replacing it with something that will help people to have insurance. This means, if a child is born with a birth defect, that child would be denied health coverage for her/his lifetime, unless there were to be an insurance company that wanted to cover the child at an exorbitant rate.
We owe it to our children, our families, our communities, our Nations, and our Country to demand effective representation for our greatest right -- affordable, high quality health care. CALL TODAY!
