Historic Increases in Child Care and for Tribes

On March 23rd, Congress and the President signed the FY2018 Omnibus Appropriations bill that provided a $2.3 billion increase from FY2017 for the Child Care and Development Block Grant for a total of $5.2 billion for the program. This is the largest single-year increase in the program's history.

$5.2 billion for CCDBG and an increased set-aside for Tribal CCDBG

In addition to the huge overall increase for the CCDBG, Tribal programs received a $156,780,000 increase set-aside, in addition to the required 2% set-aside, of this new allocation. This could not have happened without your voice and your stories!

When NICCA visited the Hill a few weeks ago, we heard your voices and carried your stories with us to fight for this much-needed increase to ensure that our children have the access to high-quality care that is needed to support our families who are struggling to move ahead in life. Thank you for sharing your stories, voicing your need, and fighting for our children!

If you would like more information, there are several resources that may be useful. Please stay tuned for NICCA efforts to support you in implementing your programs and services with these new monies.

Our next step is to educate about the need for and importance of this increase in future funding years -- beginning with FY2019! Be ready to take action and be the voice for our future generations!
