COVID-19 hit our nation and our world hard. It hit child care really hard...and Tribal communities even harder. The National Indian Child Care Association explored how child care programs are faring during this time, what their needs are, and what some promising strategies for addressing needs have been. We learned that:
There has been a significant financial loss;
Getting and being able to afford supplies have been major barriers;
The largest expenses were employee wages;
There was a massive drop in daily attendance; and
If programs have to remain closed, employees will be largely affected whether being forced to lay off or reduce hours.
Tribes were highlighted as a positive support system for child care providers.
